Busy Busy
Here is the little man in Grandma M's arms on Friday, 10 Days old!
Aunty Gerry and Asher:
Asher and Aunty Brenda at Breakfast on Saturday:
Today we went up to Grandma and Grandpa M's for home made soup and a shelter raising. Asher basically hung out with Grandma, Mommy and Stef but in a few years he will be able to help out too!
Here is the crew working on the shelter, Aunty Gerry looks a bit puzzled by the instructions!

Shartin in the Tub!
We were just finishing up, Gord went to grab the towel to wrap him up in it, since that always calms him right down, and I was lifting him out of the tub. Out of nowhere I heard him (Asher not Gord) Fart... Or rather Shart...
I think I felt it... before I heard it because he was squeaking away due to his dislike of the bath.
I quickly put his bum back into the water to rinse it off, and we wrapped him up in his cute hooded towel.
He was just starting to calm down and I was walking into the bedroom to dry him off when I heard it again...
This time is was louder and there was a lot more force behind it.
I looked down at the carpet to make sure it wasn't leaking through the towel and onto our new carpet, since it sounded pretty wet. Then I went back into the bathroom where Gord was to see how bad the damage was. Gord took one look and almost peed himself he was laughing so hard. Asher had Sharted right through the towel and it was not a small one either...
Gord and I were laughing so uncontrollably we couldn't figure out what to do. We needed the towel to dry him off and the other two hooded towels Asher has were in the wash.
We ended up cleaning his bum, and drying him off with the clean parts of the towel.
I'm not sure that towel will ever be the same. But at least it was yellow to match his mustard coloured poops!

Mommy and Asher Day
Sorry for the bad punctuation, for what ever reason when I go to make a question mark I get this: É and when I hit the comma key I get this: è. Does anyone know what is going on with our key board...
Asher slept very well last night, and Daddy was able to get lots of sleep! He slept for 3.5 hours, work up to eat and be changed, then another 2 hours and again another 2 hours...
He had some tummy time this morning and was awake for almost an hour before he was hungry and then wanted to go back to sleep again... and now he is still napping! He should be up soon and will likely be hungry!
He is a pretty darn good kid, considering everything he put mommy through before he arrived. I guess he is making up for it!
This afternoon the public health nurse is stopping by for a visit and then Great Aunty Char, Aunty B, and Colton will be coming by for a visit later too! Asher loves visitors!
Here is photo of the little guy this morning during his tummy time!

Visiting
After that we went to Grandma P's work for a visit too!
Over the weekend we also did lots of visiting. On Saturday night we went up to visit Grumpy M and Grandma M. Asher sure loves his Grumpy, he cuddled with him for hours, and mommy got a nice long break!
Then on Sunday Kris and Liana came over and so did Aunty Gerry and Uncle Jack!!! Aunty Gerry bought Asher the Diaper Genie, and she brought it all the way from Vancouver on the back of her motorcycle!!Then once everyone left, it was time for Asher's first bath at home!
Then we went to Grandma and Grandpa P's for a visit. Asher got to meet Deb, Harold, Dia, Tim and Cheryl. Aunty and Uncle were also there with Cousin Kiana. Here is Uncle Glen with the cousins:

Birth Story!
Since Asher is sleeping and Daddy is making breaky I figured it would be a good time to start writing the Birth story, and hopefully finish it too!!
Tuesday July 14, 2009 - My due date arrived!! Aunty Tricia and I had plans to hang out and go for a walk. So after having breakfast and some coffee we decided to call Tesia (another prego friend) and see if she wanted to join us for a "labour inducing walk".
We headed over to Tesia's place around 10am and went for a beach walk. When we came back around lunch time, we were all pretty hungry and for some reason all craving Poutine! We decided that since New York Fries is in town we could settle for A&W poutine so we headed into Langford for some lunch.
After lunch we went back to Aunty Tricia's place so Tesia could take Cousin Kiana's bassinet since her baby will be arriving shortly and need a bed!
We were all sitting on Aunty Tricia and Uncle Glen's bed playing with Cousin Kiana when I felt my water break!!! On Uncle Glen's side of the bed!!! Hehe sorry Big Brother! I headed for the bathroom, and ended up being in there for a good 20min since it wouldn't stop leaking. When I finally came out I was having some pretty major contractions. Aunty Tricia called Gord at work to let him know, and I called my doctor's office. While waiting for my doctor to call back I decided we needed to go... I had to get to the hospital.... Boy was I right!
I think Tricia should write a blog post about the car ride there.... clearly I was in transition for the first half of the ride, and during the second half of the ride and the walk into the hospital I was doing all I could to not push!!
We got to the hospital at 2:37pm and into the delivery room shortly after that. I started pushing as soon as they checked me and determined that I was good to go.
Gord came in the room shortly after, and was AMAZING!!! I could not have done it with out him... literally you feel like a crazy person because your body feel out of control. The way Gord talked to me and coached me through it, brought me down a level and focused me. Once I was in the zone and knew what to do and how to do it, within 3 contractions Asher arrived into the world! He arrived at 3:22pm, weighing in at 6 pounds 1 oz! (I think Grandpa P actually won the baby pool but I have to double check!)
His nose was a little flattened so they had to check his oxygen levels and we were giving him a bit of oxygen for the first bit after birth but within a few hours he was good to go!
The first night he slept quite a bit, but we didn't... too busy rehashing the unreal birth experience and trying to get the little man to eat (he just wanted to sleep).
The second night we finally started to get the hang of Breastfeeding!! For the first 24 hours we struggled to get him to latch, because he couldn't seem to figure out how to suck once he was on. Turns out his tongue was just too far back and we had to work with him to teach him to bring it forward when he sucks! Within no time he had it down!
We came home on Thursday night, it was a very gassy night for the little man. Poor little guy was hurtin. But we did end up getting a few hours sleep after a little gripe water, a diaper change, a feed and a swaddle!
Friday was a great day, he was a happy little man and got to go visit his Aunty Tricia and Uncle Glen! Then we went out to find some newborn clothes since his is such a little guy and none of his 0-3 months outfits fit!! We didn't have much luck so we will be headed out again today to see what we can find!
Anyways, there is the quick update/Birth story, I'm sure there's lots I missed. But overall we are all doing wonderfully! Asher is feeding and sleeping great, and right now is being burped by daddy! Life is good!

Ouch Baby!
I got home just after 10:30am and from that point on they were strong and through my back... I was in quite a bit of pain... I could hardly get over one contraction, because the back pain was so bad, before another one came on. So after quite a bit of debating, I decided to call Gord.
Well I swear, not 2 minutes after I hung up the freaking phone they started to come down, and by the time he was home they started to space out.... I couldn't believe it... so I decided to send him back to work once they were at a manageable place again. Really baby... really!?!
I think my doctor may have been onto something today when she said: maybe since baby is in a posterior position, the labour starts to progress but doesn't get too far because the baby isn't in a good position to come out so everything slows down...
So now I am going to go and do the cat pose for 30 minutes to see if this kid will turn.... wish me luck!!!

McLennan (or not so McLennan) Toe
Kiana's McLennan Toe:
Notice how they both like to show off the "McLennan Toe" by sticking it up in the air...
Normally I would also post a picture of my "McLennan Toe", but at the moment my feet are so puffy that I don't think it is a fair representation of the true Adult "McLennan Toe", and I also don't want to scare anyone. The later reason is why I also wont be posting my Dad's seasoned McLennan Toe either!

3 days to go... or so we hope!
We had a bit of a mix up back in October. I peed on a stick, the stick showed two lines, so we went out and bought another stick to pee on just to be sure. The next morning I peed on the new stick, one line... WTF! So I went to the doctor, my two line stick in hand (or purse), to find out what was going on! His test was negative as well, but he said that my test was clearly positive, so I should wait a few days and test again. That night (TMI Warning) I got what I thought was my AF (Aunt Flo, no relation to Gord's Aunty Flo since we like her...), so I didn`t bother to test again. Anyways, my AF lasted only 2 days and was very light, but I put it out of my mind and went on with things.
The following month I got another positive test, I got 3 actually!
My doctor (and I) determined my due date to be August 6th.
A few months later, while my doctor was measuring my belly, she noticed that I was measuring bigger then I should be. Meaning I might be further along then we initially thought.... or I was having TWINS!!! Yikes! hmmm... I think (hope) further along!
She decided to send me for a dating Ultrasound. Unfortunately, dating ultrasounds are only accurate in the beginning of pregnancy, I believe it`s before 10 weeks gestation and I was 17 (or 20) weeks along.
In calculating my dates, I determined that if I had actually been pregnant in October, my due date would have been July 14th. However, the ultrasound calculated my due date at July 21st.
For those who don`t want to do the math, that`s a week difference!
So we have 3 potential due dates: August 6th, July 21st and July 14th. The doctor has stuck with the Ultrasound prediction of July 21st, so technically I wont be considered overdue until after that date. But to be honest July 21st makes no sense as far as "timing" goes...
So I guess time will tell... and in the grand scheme of things, due dates really don`t mean much, but it is nice to have something to count down to!

Complaints!
I thought about updating the blog yesterday but decided not to waste every ones time with nothingness. Truly, I haven't been very exciting these last few days, mostly doctors appointments, reading, laundry, cleaning, napping with Abbi and more recently exploring what our camera can do.
Yesterday afternoon I went out in the backyard, treats in hand, with Abbi and snapped a few shots. Then I tried playing with some of the photo editing software online to see what I could do with the pictures I took. Turns out you can do some fun stuff with your pictures online for free, but any of the really neat stuff costs ya... what did I expect really? Now of course I am trying to figure out how to get my hands on photoshop, and more then ever want to take a digital photography course so I can understand our camera better!
Here is a sample of some of the shots I got:

Quick Update
Just thought I should get that out of the way before anyone got excited!!!
I had 9 hours of STRONG contractions yesterday/last night... so I really wasn't much company at Uncle Glen's 31st Bday party... Got home and by about 11:30pm they were starting to space out, by 12:30 I was able to relax enough to drift in and out of sleep!
Woke up this morning only having some very minor contractions, typical.
Aunty Gerry who is in town for a few days, came to take me to the my doctors appointment this morning, where the Dr. did a Stretch and Sweep (basically where she sweeps/disturbs the cells around baby's head, which is said to induce labour naturally). Since then I have been back to having strong contractions and I'm hoping this gets us somewhere!
Fingers Crossed!!!

More Maternity Photos!!
There was also some really neat "Beach Art" scattered around including this really cool Air Plane built out of drift wood:
Hopefully next time we take the trip out to Sooke for this walk we are pushing a stroller too!
